Information for New Members
The following is
essential
for all hill walks
- Suitable walking boots,
- Comfortable back pack,
- Waterproof jacket and trousers,
- Hat and gloves,
- Extra clothing layers,
- Enough food and drink for the day (we always have
lunch in the hills),
- A change of clothes in a separate bag for afterwards,
- Remember that it is usually best to wear multiple
layers of clothing rather than
a single heavy layer as this allows you to adjust for the conditions.
Remember also that
denim jeans can be very uncomfortable in wet conditions.
These following items are also recommended:
- Map and compass
- Bivi bag (survival bag)
- First aid kit
- Gaiters
- Torch
- Whistle
- Walking stick
How do I join
Club
Cualann
- Before joining the club you are advised to come on
one or two walks with the club so as to be sure that the club is right
for you.
- A membership application form can be downloaded or is
available from a member of the committee.
- The annual subscription in €45 for an
individual or €70 for a couple.
What are the
advantages of MCI membership
As a member of Club Cualann you become a club member
of the MCI (Mountaineering Council of
Ireland). The MCI is the national
representative body for all mountaineers, including hillwalkers,
climbers and ramblers, and represents your interests at local, national
